For the second weekend in a row, the sun was shining down for another electric weekend of sport. Of course, for some, the good weather inevitably means barbecues, ice cream and walks along the beach. But, we know that most Sportpool players are hardened sports enthusiasts, that don’t let such things as a minor heat wave get in the way of their viewing! And when there is also big money at stake, the news of such weather may even be a surprise to some of you! So, in our 36th week, did we manage to produce any winners?
It was FA Cup semi-final weekend, and although there was a strong showing of Premier League teams still vying for the coveted trophy, there were still five exciting kick offs at 3pm for us to get our teeth stuck into. We were looking for total goals, as usual, and if you selected 15-16 then your weekend was off to a rip-roaring start.
As the footie finished, a tense match between Sale Sharks and London Irish in the Aviva Premiership was getting under way. Again, as usual, we were looking for the total number of points scored in the game and to stand a chance of remaining in the jackpot hunt, our remaining hopefuls needed to select the 42 or more option as the final score ended up 20-34.
And so we headed to Wembley for the first FA Cup semi-final of the weekend pitting Manchester United against their local rivals Manchester City. Not many could predict that the Sky Blues would overcome the odds and topple the giants that are the Red Devils, but in a game that saw key midfielder Paul Scholes ejected from the pitch, they managed to scrape a 1-0 victory and cement their place in the final. Sadly, this result meant that we ended day one of this competition with nobody vying for the big jackpot money, but we had high hopes that at least one player would take up the challenge and correctly predict all of Sunday’s results!
Here at Sportpool, we love this time of year as it means we can include as many F1 races as possible. Although, often hard to predict, they provide that extra dimension of high octane excitement and drama that SportSIX commands! This week, we were off to Shanghai where Lewis Hamilton claimed his first victory of the season, an outcome that not many players seemed to think would occur. Nonetheless we are sure that you are all happy he was atop the podium come the end of the race!
Next, we headed up to Scotland, where we were counting the total number of corners as Hibernian entertained Hamilton at Easter Road and there were certainly a lot to count! In total, there were a whopping 18, which roughly equates to 1 every 5 minutes! That is some total!
We rounded off the competition with the second FA Cup semi-final between Bolton Wanderers and Stoke City. Here, we were looking for the total number of cards the referee produced throughout the game. In order to score a tick with this question, players needed to select 2 here.
So the weekend of sport was over and rather frustratingly we could not crown any cash winners at all. Well done to the players who picked up a cheeky bonus game for securing three correct answers, you were so close to cash! Hopefully next week we will be able to add new names to our winners list!
